AJ Joinery Ltd was established in 1999 by Mike Wells. Mike was in the building industry for half of his life (and in the pub for the other half). There, he was well known for his personality and knowledge of the industry, particularly timber. He retired from Marlow’s in 1998 to take things easy in his garden shed, carving rocking horses. That endeavour was short-lived, as he was contacted by numerous customers from national house builders to private clients he had previously worked with. They wanted to engage his knowledge in their future projects. That knowledge quickly became manufacturing, and the garden shed suddenly became too small for operations, so AJ Joinery Ltd moved into its present location.

So, Mike Wells did not have an idea to start a joinery business; rather, it was the industry that wasn’t quite ready to let Mike go. Mike has since retired and is now back in the garden shed trying to finish that rocking horse he began so many years ago. His daughter, her partner and a team of quality craftsmen run the business.
